What's with the mermaids, anyway? Besides the belief that I am one, my favorite story growing up was Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid". No, not the Disney-fied happily after after nonsense, with a wedding and singing crabs, but the dark allegory of his forbidden love for Edvard Collin.
The one where the heroine has the choice: kill her beloved's beloved, and she will be a mortal. Instead, she throws the knife into the sea, her sacrifice making her a daughter of the air. Sacrifice is true love, and my idea of romance.
Sea glass from Hawaii, antique red coral from a broken necklace, windshield glass and a perfect sea urchin.

I changed my mind (a mermaid piece)
I changed my mind. I made this for the newly married couple, and it belongs to them. I will get to spend a long weekend staring at it, and give it to them on Tuesday. (*if you are reading this for the first time, I originally called this post 'conundrum', and was being selfish and wanted to keep this for myself.)
Shells, white coral, freshwater seed/rice/round pearls, a few vintage faux pearls, pre-ban antique red coral, windshield glass, silver foil on gold painted found wood piece. 5" x 8"

Mirror for LoLa
I went to Corvallis for a wonderful visit with dear, dear Lola. I can now say I've gotten drunk with someone who used to drink with Bukowski: I have arrived. I am sharing this, because it is beautiful, even if it is on a cheap ass mirror, and it commemorates a lovely meeting of minds; I am almost tempted to move there, but space and timing are issues!

Archive: Mermaid Tiara
This was a latter day addition to the collection. The shell, with rocks embedded, was from the time I lived on Molokai. Blue windshield glass, gilded with silver foil, antique coral strands, beads and carved flowers, pearls, both real and vintage, on a plastic headband. The original tiaras are MIA, but I will be locating them, and the other missing items, posting them when I can. This is terrifically wearable!

Skull

Deer Skull, glass, real antique red coral beads, real south sea pearls, real antique mother of pearl beads. Black glass around eyes. I really, really dig this piece. The skull was a gift. Or, rather, was given to me to pass along to somone 6+ years ago. I made it into art, as I doubt I will ever see the intended recipient again. And, anyway, I had a vision and had to make this.
