almost (finished)

This piece was called "almost" because it was almost there, but not quite. I did not want the background to be silver or gold, pigment or foil. I've been crazy about this antiquing paint, and I think the dark, juxtaposed with the monochromatic light, is hot.

Lily Pad and Water

I enjoy touchstone pieces, the imagistic ones done several times throughout one's career. The lilypad and water is one of such pieces for me. Japanese simplicity from gold gilded beer bottles, silver windshield glass, Japanese glass float pieces, and other found glass. center piece is a large pearlescent jewelry piece. JAS piece.

Portland en Bleu

I haven't posted any new work lately, but this one made me really happy, so I am bothering. Glass scraps from a friend's fused glass class, windshield glass, errant jewelry, broken chandelier bits on silver pigment painted found wood. This one is on display@ my work, as someone bought it, and I wanted time with is before she comes to pick it up.

almost

I am not sure if this is finished, but I like the monochromatic industrial look of it right now. At first, I was concerned by my subdued palette, but I ended up really loving it.

The close up shots are of a plate that was my paternal great grandmother's. During the original Great Depression, plates and cups were given away with oatmeal. Beautiful white glass, opaque in places, raised floral designs, see through lines. So elegant to the modern eye, but considered a "freebie" at the time. Alas, they are also very fragile, and this one did not make a move. With gold leaf gilding it, the reaction behind the glass reminds me of moss.

Also contains a large metal nut, found outside of my work on a walk to get away, glass from bus shelters, silver foil, some beads, and a 1930s faux ivory piece. Various metal bits, chandelier glass, buttons, pearls, rhinestones. On found wood from one of the dozen or so cookie cutter apartment buildings going up on my street. One, I found out with this morning, blocks out most of my
ability to see the mountains and sunsets from my front yard. Ah, gentrification!

Mirror for LoLa

I went to Corvallis for a wonderful visit with dear, dear Lola. I can now say I've gotten drunk with someone who used to drink with Bukowski: I have arrived. I am sharing this, because it is beautiful, even if it is on a cheap ass mirror, and it commemorates a lovely meeting of minds; I am almost tempted to move there, but space and timing are issues!
The slight nod to Haring is intentional.

Archive: Mermaid Tiara

This was a latter day addition to the collection. The shell, with rocks embedded, was from the time I lived on Molokai. Blue windshield glass, gilded with silver foil, antique coral strands, beads and carved flowers, pearls, both real and vintage,  on a plastic headband. The original tiaras are MIA, but I will be locating them, and the other missing items, posting them when I can. This is terrifically wearable!

Archive: Mermaid Hair Ornament

This is a wearable hair comb, obviously one of the pearls is missing from the wires at the top. I wore this in my hair when I lived in Hawaii. Nice to see it again.
